It was in 1889 that the sugar heir John D. Spreckels bought out H.L. Story's one-third interest in the Coronado Beach Company. Eventually buying controlling interest becoming the sole proprietor of the Hotel del Coronado. The mansion he built for himself on Glorietta Boulevard is now home to the fabulous, Glorietta Bay Inn.
